Troubleshooting avast installation errors caused by corrupted setup files

1 minute, 44 seconds Read

Corrupted files can arise on any sort of file, including Word, Excel, PDF, image files, and Windows system files. When this occurs, you’ll observe a mistake that says somewhat like, “The file is distorted and cannot be opened,” or “The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.” This error occurs when you double-click the file to unlock it, or when you try to open it from within an application. If you come across one of these messages, here are some ways to fix the trouble. To fix this issue, follow the steps in this article.

Download your Avast product again

Click one of the following to download your favored Avast product:

Avast Antivirus free download products for Windows

Avast One | Avast Premium Security | Avast Free Antivirus | Avast Uninstall Utility

Other Avast products for Windows

Avast Cleanup Premium | Avast Secure Line | Avast Driver Updater | Avast Battery Saver | Avast BreachGuard

Make sure that the setup file is uncorrupted

If the error continues to emerge, check the veracity of the setup file you downloaded:

  • Go to the folder where you saved the avast_(…)_setup_(…).exe setup file (by default, all files are saved to your Downloads folder). The file name involves the name of your Avast software and either online or offline, for instance, avast_premium_security_setup_offline.exe.
  • Right-click avast_(…)_setup_(…).exe and choose Properties.
  • Opt for the Digital Signatures tab. You should perceive 1 or 2 digital signatures from AVAST Software s.r.o. If you don’t notice the Digital Signatures tab, your setup file is curtailed or corrupted. Troubleshoot this concern by using the instructions
  • Click on a digital signature to opt for it, then click on the Details tab.

Find the message shown underneath the Digital Signature Info. Depending on which message you make out, refer to the appropriate instructions.
